Home to just over one hundred thousand people, the spa town of Cheltenham is placed in the idyllic Gloucestershire countryside, just on the margins of the Cotswolds.
The town’s status as a holiday resort sprung, literally, from the mineral-rich water rising from beneath the townspeople’s feet which was thought at the time to have health benefits.
The town has long been known as a haven for the well-healed (property prices are at a premium) and this is reflected by the fact that Cheltenham is home to a number of exclusive private schools, perhaps the best known of which is Cheltenham Ladies College.
However, the town’s biggest claim to fame has to be its historic racecourse, home to the Cheltenham Festival of horse racing every March, also the country’s centre for National Hunt racing during the winter months.
